OUR LOVE STORY
The first time Ben and I really talked was working on an LDC project. We had met previously (and virtually… thanks pandemic) a few times on some random coffee breaks and zoom hang outs. The project was complicated and I didn’t like the way it was designed. After carefully asking him if he designed it and finding out he did not….. I shot my shot. No, not that shot. Within moments I was telling him all about how we should design this piece of metal to hold a light up in a theater. He was the designer and I was supposed to be the drafter, but he listened patiently, tested my knowledge a little bit… and told me it was a great idea that he wanted to use. After that day, I always had respect for him. No, it wasn’t love at first sight, but I could tell we would be good friends.
Fast forward a few years, my friends Mike and Monique invited me to Gilead at Ben’s house. I never say no to a good time with Mike and Mo, so of course I said yes. That weekend we danced, we hiked, we bonded and vibed. It was then that I knew, despite my best efforts, I had a little crush on this guy I worked with and respected. After that weekend, we would hang out, have a great (and yes, sometimes a little flirty) time with each other, ghost each other for a while, then reconnect and make plans to hang out again. Little did we know then that one of those “routine” plans with friends would be when we started dating and another would be when we got engaged. Now I experience that respect and love I saw early on every day, and I’m glad it will never stop.
